Climate/Dress
Temperatures in Christchurch are never too extreme, the hottest times of the year are during the summer months of January and February, during which time the high temperatures can range from 22C-30C (72F - 86F). The weather forecast for Christchurch can be found here.
Currency/Banking
All major credit cards are accepted in stores and hotels etc in New Zealand. Traveler’s cheques can be cashed at banks, hotels and some stores. Most major banks offer exchange facilities at branches close to the Convention Centre. Banks are open 0900 – 1630 hours Monday to Friday. Automatic Teller Machines (ATMs) are widely dispersed in the central city area and are open 24 hours. There is an ATM in the conference venue which accepts most international credit and cash cards.
Banking facilities are available at the International Airport and open for all arriving and departing international flights.
The unit of currency in New Zealand is the New Zealand dollar (NZ$)

Electricity/Power Adapters
The standard voltage of electric power in New Zealand is 230 volts, 50 hertz. Adapters are available commercially (airports and electronics stores) and at most major hotels. Many hotels provide outlets in their bathrooms for electric razors only (230/100V, 50/60Hz).
To use electrical items purchased in the US (eg laptops), you will need to obtain an adaptor with a flat. Angled two or three point power plug to connect to the power supply, For other electrical devices (eg hairdryers) check carefully to ensure your device can handle 230V, 50Hz power.
Drinking Water
Christchurch city water, originating from deep artesian wells is pure and perfectly safe to drink straight from the tap. Water supplies throughout New Zealand are consistently safe to drink and are of a high standard and purity.
Tipping
Tipping is not widely practiced in New Zealand, is NOT customary and not encouraged.
Email/Internet Access
An internet café will be available at the conference for delegates to check emails and access the internet. Wireless internet access points will be available at the venue. Details on wireless access will be provided in delegate’s conference pack.
Medical Emergency Services
A comprehensive list of emergency medical services in the Christchurch area will be provided to delegates in their conference pack. All international delegates are urged to arrange full travel (including medical) insurance.
Language
New Zealand is an English speaking country.

Smoking Policy
Please note that New Zealand has very strong anti smoking laws that prohibit smoking on all public transport, in work places and public buildings including restaurants and bars. The Christchurch Convention Centre is a smoke free facility.
